Care for a sore back

Assessment, hands-on care and exercise for low back pain, for desk workers, parents and lifters in Surry Hills who want to move with less pain.

Can a chiropractor help with low back pain?

For many types of non-specific low back pain, evidence supports spinal manipulation and mobilisation as one useful option, especially alongside staying active and targeted exercise. Most back pain settles within weeks, and care aims to ease pain and help you keep moving while it does.

Every new patient starts with a history and examination. If anything points to a cause that needs more than manual care, we refer you to your GP or for imaging rather than treat around it.

Who is it for?

  • Recent back pain after lifting, gardening or a long drive
  • Stiffness that is worse in the morning or after sitting
  • Back pain that keeps returning every few months
  • People who want an exercise plan, not only hands-on care

What to expect

  1. 01

    History

We ask how the pain started, what eases it, your work and sleep, and any other health conditions or medications.

  2. 02

    Examination

Movement, strength, reflex and nerve checks help us find what is involved and rule out signs that need a GP or imaging.

  3. 03

    Treatment

If care is suitable, it may include spinal adjustment, mobilisation or soft tissue work, explained and agreed with you first.

  4. 04

    Plan

You leave with two or three simple exercises and a written plan, with a review point to check progress.

After your visit

Some people feel mild soreness for a day or two, much like after a workout. Keep gently active, walk if you can, and do your exercises. Call us or your GP if pain spreads down a leg or you notice numbness or weakness.

Common questions

Usually not. Guidelines advise against routine imaging for most low back pain. We refer for imaging only when the history or examination suggests it is needed.
