Ease a stiff neck
Assessment and gentle care for neck pain and neck-related headaches, for people in Surry Hills who spend long hours at screens or wake up stiff.
Can neck problems cause headaches?
Some headaches, called cervicogenic headaches, start from the joints and muscles of the upper neck. Manual therapy combined with neck and shoulder exercises may help ease these, and can ease general neck stiffness and pain.
Not every headache comes from the neck. We take a careful history and examine you first, and if your symptoms suggest another cause we refer you to your GP.
Who is it for?
- Neck stiffness after long days at a laptop
- Headaches that start at the base of the skull
- Waking with a sore neck or limited turning
- Shoulder and upper back tension that builds through the week
What to expect
- 01
History
We ask about your headache pattern, posture, sleep, work set-up and any recent knocks or falls.
- 02
Examination
We check neck movement, muscle tone, nerve function and screen for signs that need a GP review.
- 03
Treatment
Care may include gentle mobilisation, low-force adjustment or soft tissue work. You can choose a no-manipulation approach.
- 04
Plan
You leave with simple neck and shoulder exercises and tips for your desk and pillow.
After your visit
Mild stiffness for a day is common. Keep moving your neck gently, take regular screen breaks and do your exercises. Seek medical care urgently for a sudden severe headache, or one with vision changes, weakness or slurred speech.
Common questions
Serious problems are rare. We screen for risk factors before any neck care and also offer gentle mobilisation and soft tissue options without manipulation.
